An annual observance of non-governmental organizations worldwide. It is a day for recognizing the important social contributions of these groups. First celebrated in 2010, this day highlights NGOs through regional and international events.
Growing to Give was invited by the Cropper Foundation, www.thecropperfoundation.org in Trinidad to present on World NGO day in Trinidad. Co-founder, Siobhan Shaw and team members, media team members, Gillian Murray and Jonathan Leach attended virtually. Siobhan began her no holds barred speech with this - What I have to say affects you. People are hungry. People are dying of starvation. That's why we’re growing to give. As a people we’ve taken advantage of what the planet provides us. It's time the world recognizes the choices we make have a direct effect on the people of the islands because they are on the forefront of the catastrophic climate and inflation effect - a result of our consumerist way of life - we’ve used up resources as if they are unlimited. We waste far too much. Threaten the food supply and society begins to break down.
Invited to speak at Draper Startup House – CARICOM, https://dshcaricom.com - Growing to Give Co-founder, Siobhan Shaw was the only on women on the panel speaking about sustainable agriculture innovation and social impact. She spoke about her personal mission, which is, “to increase the number of women who operate farms in their community. Give a women food and you feed her family, teach a woman to grow food and she will feed her community.”
Ambassadors from around the world were present at the first Island innovation training event of 2023. Growing to Give’s own Gillian Murray was tapped as an Island Innovation ambassador for the French island of St. Martin. Gillian introduced her friend and colleague, co-founder, Siobhan Shaw to this prestigious group. Siobhan shared with the island ambassadors that, “When you feed innovation, you feed the world. Because everything begins with an idea.” Collaboration is the wave of the future. The idea only catches the wave and builds momentum because of collaborative efforts of many people.”
Growing to Give (G2G), founded in 2019, is an international organization of agricultural experts, innovators, business professionals, attorneys and volunteers dedicated to addressing the world-wide problem of food security. Using agricultural technology, G2G’s goal is food security for climate-vulnerable communities and island nations that struggle to produce food.
When G2G began, John Kendall and Siobhan Shaw, shared the idea of growing organic vegetables employing resource-smart technology, design and methods while focused on donating nutritious crop yields to local food pantries and food access sites. Today, over 60 professional volunteers’ partner with farmers and social agencies who serve at-risk communities using these high-yield, climate-resilient, energy-efficient farms donated in partnership by sponsoring companies and foundations.
